Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct

All patients are entitled to expect high standards of practice and conduct from their health care practitioners. Essential elements of these standards are professional competence, good relationships with patients and colleagues, and observance of professional ethical obligations. Patients must be able to trust practitioners with their lives, health and well-being. In order to justify that trust, APA members have a duty to maintain high standards of care and to show utmost respect for life in all its aspects.

In the light of the above, the APA has produced a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, which all APA members agree to abide by. This code explains to people outside the profession the high standards under which APA member practitioners operate.

All APA registered members are expected to:

• Practise always in compliance with the philosophy and principles of Ayurveda
• Put the well-being of their patients before all other considerations
• Cultivate and promote their own personal development, health and well-being
• Be honest and trustworthy
• Respond promptly and constructively to any criticism or complaint from any source
• Continuously update their professional knowledge and skills in accordance with the current CPD policies of the APA
• Be covered by professional and public liability insurance
• Make no claim for the cure of any specific illness or disease
