APA CPD EVENT: Safe Practice for All - Solutions, Not Problems

Thursday, 26th October 2023. 6pm - 8 pm BST

Venue: Indian YMCA, 41 Fitzroy Square, London, W1T 6AQ or online via Livestream.

Join the APA (Ayurvedic Professionals Association) for an evening to discuss important matters related to the Herbal Medicine practice in the UK. Please join the APA on October 26th @ 6 pm in person or via live stream to consider the implications of the question asked by the Coroner last year to the APA Committee. Let's together consider how we can all safeguard users of herbs and the Public.

Duration: 2 hours.

In the last newsletter, I wrote a reference to this event, so I am delighted to be able to share more details. This event is the move to the next stage following the Coroner's request in 2022.

This CPD will be on October 26th from 6 pm and is available in person and online. As the Coroner criticised the APA for not having compulsory CPD, we ask all APA members to participate. If you cannot attend on the 26th using either format, please let the office know before October 15th. It is very important that you register your attendance as soon as possible via this Eventbrite link - https://APACPDevent.eventbrite.co.uk .

The APA are also inviting representatives and members of Ayurvedic organisations, Herbal groups, and members. Safe Practice for ALL, Solutions, not problems, will be the first stage of a process to create a framework for the future. We are finalising guests and medical representatives to join the discussion; more details will follow in a week.

History

This evening will be the continuation of the reporting process sent to the Coroner in August 2022. At this time, the APA committee strongly felt that to truly complete the Coroner's request on Preventing Future Deaths; we would need to expand on what was being asked of the APA as an organisation to include All who work with or represent Complementary Health in the UK. Moreover, the committee feels that in asking the APA as an organisation, the Coroner has potentially helped everyone consider and start the conversation about what needs to change so we can all grow, learn and create new frameworks for safer practice.

The evening will focus on Solutions, Not Problems.

Dr Vijay Murthy will briefly discuss the absolute need for accurate history taking, encompassing all aspects of the patient's diet, lifestyle, chronic illnesses, over-the-counter and prescribed medications, seasonal considerations, when a red flag should be raised and why.

Without Government statutory regulation, everyone practising in the natural health arena, Herbalism, Ayurveda, Functional Medicine, and Naturopath are not recognised as health professionals. Thus, the onus to create a safe framework in which to practice falls to organisations like the APA.

The APA hopes that by initiating this discussion and creating the framework, this event will lead to the wider development of relevant, practical, informative and supportive guidelines and relevant CPD for all. This is important as it was an area that the APA was particularly criticised for not having Compulsory CPD in line with government-recognised Healthcare Professionals.

We look forward to seeing all APA members on October 26th, in person or via livestream. Together, we can create an essential platform to build a safer practice for Everyone working in or receiving Complimentary Health in the UK.

Please feel free to pass this invitation to others who you feel would benefit from attendance; the more who work together, the greater the chance to change and prevent a death attributed to any tradition.

This is a FREE event, but registration is necessary. You can join live in London or via a Live stream.
