APA Webinar - Teaching yoga for the menstrual cycle - an Ayurvedic Approach

Tuesday, 12 December 2023 17:00 - 18:00 GMT

The APA presents a webinar: Teaching yoga for the menstrual cycle - an āyurvedic Approach by Anja Brierley Lange.
Celebrating one year since the release of her book Teaching yoga for the menstrual cycle - an Ayurvedic approach Anja and the APA presents a webinar based on her book.

The menstrual cycle is often neglected in our approach to general health and well-being unless there are specific gynaecological or menstrual complaints. This includes how most yoga asana classes are taught in the Western world as well as in life in general.

In this webinar, Anja will discuss how we can use the wisdom of Ayurveda in relationship, specifically to yoga. And through yoga (and how it is perceived in the West) to other exercises and how we approach the menstrual cycle in our day-to-day life.

We will focus on the four phases of the cycle and how the dosas are involved, as well as a basic understanding of the hormonal changes.

Through the āyurvedic lens, we look at how different constitutions and any imbalances are experienced through the cycle as well as potential complaints. Through the connection between yoga and āyurveda, Anja will share her approach to yoga for the menstrual cycle of the individual.

Understanding the changing phases of the cycle, we learn how to work with the body rather than working against it or ignoring it.

About Anja

Anja Brierley Lange is the author of Teaching Yoga for the menstrual cycle - an Āyurvedic approach. She began her yoga teaching journey in 2005 in venues and studios across London. Whilst building her community through various classes, workshops and lectures, she became increasingly aware of the limitations of standardised yoga teaching and training. Specifically relating to menstrual cycle awareness, female anatomy and health.

With a strong ambition to better serve the individuals within her community, Anja enrolled at university, studying for a four-year degree in āyurvedic medicine at Middlesex University. She found herself returning to India, apprenticing and working alongside several specialist doctors in hospitals across India. And in 2009/10, she graduated with a bachelor of science (BSc) and postgraduate degree (PGDip) in āyurveda.

Since 2013 she has been training yoga teachers, including creating teacher training courses in pregnancy and postnatal yoga. Now after over 18 years of experience, it is in this space she continues to dedicate her focus and growth. Continuing to broaden her training beyond yoga in order to obtain and guide a holistic practice with female health at heart.
