Membership

The APA has the following categories of membership

Full membership is available to fully qualified Ayurvedic doctors with a minimum of BAMS or equivalent degree, and to fully qualified Ayurvedic practitioners with a degree qualification or equivalent in Ayurvedic medicine. All full members are required to be resident in the UK, have completed a minimum of 500 hours of clinical internship at an APA approved college or university hospital, have valid professional indemnity insurance and to abide by the APA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct as well as the mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) policy of the APA.

Associate membership is available for:

  • Overseas Ayurvedic doctors and practitioners who meet the qualification requirements for full membership as per the standards set out by the APA, so as to provide a framework for visiting Ayurvedic practitioners to share their knowledge and wisdom through teaching, lecturing or practising whilst being in the UK
  • Ayurvedic doctors from abroad who are in the UK with a student visa, or equivalent short-term visa that is either without work permit or with a work permit that only allows a limited number of hours of work per week.
  • Persons who have education and training in Ayurveda that do not meet the qualification criteria for full membership as per the standards set out by the APA. We do not recognise these members as fully qualified practitioners, but support them in the process of upgrading their knowledge and expertise.
  • Ayurvedic massage therapists or Ayurvedic nutrition and lifestyle therapists that meet the minimum standard of training in these subjects, as per the APA criteria. Please download the Therapist Criteria document below for detailed information.

Student membership is open to all undergraduate students of validated Ayurvedic degree/diploma courses in the UK that are recognised by the APA.
