APA Presents a webinar by Tarik Dervish titled - 'Ayurveda in Yoga Teaching'.

After spending over 20 years sharing the wisdom of Ayurveda with Yoga teachers and practitioners, Tarik is delighted to offer this workshop in reverse to help Ayurvedic practitioners understand how they can use yoga in an intelligent way with their clients.

Many Ayurvedic practitioners are also yoga teachers and yoga is an important tool in a treatment plan but knowing how to use it is not as obvious as it first appears. Ayurveda in Yoga Teaching helps to bridge the gap in understanding between the two fields and offers a lot of examples of how it could be done in practice.

Even though Yoga and Ayurveda have been described as 'sister sciences' there is not as much scriptural support for this relationship as one might expect. Charaka draws upon a lot of yoga philosophy but there is little reference to the application of yoga practices other than the applied concept of 'vyayama' and the use of mantra. On the other hand, there are many references to Ayurvedic concepts and protocol in yogic texts such as the Hatha Yoga Pradipika (1450, Swatmarama) on which much of modern yoga is based.

Tarik felt there was a need to bridge this gap in understanding and build a line of good communication between the two worlds so that more work can be done in the future. Ayurveda in Yoga Teaching explores all the key approaches that have arisen from this relationship as well as years of personal experience in integrating techniques like marma, shodhana and shamana. This talk will give you an overview of how Ayurveda can be applied to yoga teaching and practice.

We will consider all the key techniques of yoga including asana, pranayama, shatkarmas, mudra and bandha and how to integrate panchamahabhuta, dosha and guna theory into the work.
